Warner Bros is 'Reimagining' Chevy Chase Detective Comedy 'Fletch'

Don't call this a remake, because Warner Bros is simply looking at "reimagining" Fletch, the mystery novel series that was once brought to life by Chevy Chase. Heat Vision has word that WB has preemptively picked up movie rights to the 11-book series of mystery novels by Gregory McDonald. First published in 1974, the story follows a reporter named I.M. Fletcher "who juggles writing exposes while avoiding headaches caused by his two ex-wives." Since the original comedy adaptation was a bit goofy, this new one will apparently be a little smarter with action that plays out on a much larger scale than in the 1985 film and its sequel in 1989.

A new iteration of Fletch has actually been in the works for over ten years with Harvey Weinstein originally starting development at Miramax, continuing at The Weinstein Company. Kevin Smith was once attached to direct the feature titled Fletch ...
