Arthurian Philosophy

“No work. All play.” This is the succinct tagline of Jason Winer’s (soon to direct a TV movie calledDon’t Trust the Bitch in Apartment 23, if that gives you an inkling of Winer’s enthusiasm for making money regardless of the cost of his dignity) remake of the 1981 comedy Arthur. While the original version of [...]

LIMITLESS

RYAN: Bradley Cooper stars in the new thriller, Limitless, and I must say how proud I am of his new-found movie star status. We loved him way back when he was Will Tippin on Alias. CAROLINE: I'm psyched for his success too, and I enjoy watching his hotness on the big screen. And I'm glad to say this movie is really fun.RYAN: I'm so sad I missed it! Tell me everything.CAROLINE: Well, as we know from the trailer, Bradley Cooper's character comes across a pill that allows you to use 100% of your brain capacity, rather than the 20% or so that we all allegedly use; and obviously it changes his life completely.RYAN: I love the premise. If only we could do that in real life!CAROLINE: Oh honey, be careful what you wish for. I feel like that's the main theme of the movie - drugs are bad. In this case, it's not a drug that makes you high, but one that makes you a more complete person. It sounds great, but believe me, what happens in the movie is nuts.RYAN: Does it get violent?CAROLINE: Quite. There are a few gruesome scenes, but nothing too horrendous. It's rated PG-13, after all. But it's really interesting to watch what Bradley's character goes through and what happens when people try to get their hands on this drug.RYAN: And Robert De Niro is in it too?CAROLINE: Yeah, he plays this business tycoon type who Bradley starts to work with. And Abbie Cornish is the girlfriend. I know her mostly as the chick who Ryan Phillippe dated right after - or maybe before - his divorce from Reese, but she was good in this. The vibe of the movie reminded me a lot of American Psycho, minus the serial killing.RYAN: And I trust Bradley is great?CAROLINE: Yeah, he's really good. It's a good role for him and he handles it well. He's got the hotness down, but he can also seem like a regular guy too.RYAN: So is the whole movie about him and his new life once he discovers this drug?CAROLINE: That's what I thought from the trailer, but that's really only a small part of it. The bulk of it is him on the run from bad guys who want the drug and also him trying to make sense of his life and deal with the drug's side effects. It gets pretty dark. But it's a very cool, highly stylized movie with great editing. You would really like it, I think.RYAN: I'm sure I would! I love that kind of slickness in a movie.CAROLINE: Some people are complaining that it's not 'smart' enough, which I understand. I think it could have gone a more intellectual route, and explored the use of the human brain more, and stuff like that. But I also just enjoyed it an a fun, energetic, edge-of-your-seat movie. Oh, and you would love that Anna Friel from TV's Pushing Daisies is in it. She's got a small but interesting part.-- BOTTOM LINE --CAROLINE: I really enjoyed this movie. It's fast-paced, very visual and very cool. It's also shot in NYC, so I loved that. It's certainly not an Oscar contender or anything, but if you want an exciting, kinda violent thriller, you'll enjoy this.-- RATING --Cheeky & Fresh Movie Reviews

INSIDIOUS

RYAN: You know I like a good scary movie.CAROLINE: Honey, even I can handle one from time to time. But I just wasn't as inspired for this one.RYAN: But we love Patrick Wilson.CAROLINE: We do both enjoy him, but for some reason the Insidious trailer just didn't speak to me the way it did you. So how was it?RYAN: It was okay. I definitely liked the casting, though Patrick was really one note throughout it and the script was was scary-movie-lame with his lines. I could barely stand it at times.CAROLINE: What ever do you mean?RYAN: Like, you know those moments in horror movies where you think, like, "Just get out of the house!" But of course they don't because if they did, then they'd be safe and there would be no movie?CAROLINE: Of course.RYAN: Well, this film is just rife with them. And unless you're 14 and this is the first scary film you're seeing, it's a little annoying.CAROLINE: I can imagine. How's Barbara Hershey?RYAN: She's good, and I liked the main girl who I recognized from TV's Damages.CAROLINE: Did it make you jump at all?RYAN: Yes, a few times actually; and I have to say that's what I liked about the movie. It actually managed to scare me a bit. And not only because of manipulative music and editing. Some of the imagery is actually creep-tastic.CAROLINE: But it's not bloody, right? I know the team behind Saw and Paranormal Activity was at work here.RYAN: Yes, and it's definitely more like Paranormal than Saw. They even had a baby in the mix for good measure.CAROLINE: Yes - babies seem to heighten anxiety.-- BOTTOM LINE --RYAN: I'm giving it a soft "Rent It" because it's certainly not a must see. It's kind of dumb but has a few good scares. It's the kind of movie that is probably best viewed alone one night when you come across it on HBO or Showtime or wherever it ends up eventually.-- RATING --Cheeky & Fresh Movie Reviews

Trailer Tuesdays!

RYAN: We've got a range of movies to discuss this Trailer Tuesdays, so there should be something for everyone. Let's start with the new Jake Gyllenhaal, Source Code.CAROLINE: The first time I saw this trailer I was blown away by its awesomeness, so now I'm really psyched that it's coming to theaters. I love the premise, and the action looks great.RYAN: It's got a very cool concept that looks potentially very edge-of-your-seat either aggravating or exciting. And I always enjoy Jake.CAROLINE: It reminds me of Avatar a little bit, the way they're inserting him into another world, or in this case, another time. I always enjoy Michelle Monaghan too, so I'm psyched to see her in this role. And you know I love a love story, so if there's any romance between Jake and Michelle, I'll be thrilled.RYAN: Vera Farmiga co-stars too. It looks all around decent; I just hope it doesn't get repetitive. Check out the trailer here: CAROLINE: Next we have Insidious, a thriller from producer Oren Peli, who made Paranormal Activity, and the guys behind the Saw movies.RYAN: I absolutely must see this movie! I love a good scare, and this is a cast worth seeing in any genre. CAROLINE: And by "this cast," you mean Patrick Wilson.RYAN: Of course! He's one of my faves. Since I wasn't able to make the screening for this, I will totally be shelling out my own dough to see it this weekend. CAROLINE: I don't know - it looks a little dumb to me. It seems to have the exact same premise as Paranormal Activity, except now it's about a family instead of a couple. I don't enjoy being terrified at the movies, so I think I'll skip this one; but I'm sure it'll have a built-in fan base. Watch the trailer here: RYAN: Finally, we have Hop, a partially animated film that looks cute and so timely for Easter. I've been eating Peeps for a month already!CAROLINE: I've been eating some Peeps myself, but that doesn't mean I want to see this movie. Quite the opposite. Russell Brand is only mildly charming at best, so to hear his grating voice for an entire movie isn't my idea of fun.RYAN: It looks like a sweet family film to me. It's about the Easter Bunny, honey! And it's from the people behind Despicable Me, which I loved. CAROLINE: I'm sad that James Marsden has reduced himself to kiddie movies like this, but I guess that's where the bucks are these days. But you can't tell me that Russell B's thick cockney accent isn't irritating.RYAN: I'm not going to let it bother me. I think it looks very cute, and it's also got the voices of Hugh Laurie and Hank Azaria. Watch the trailer here: Cheeky & Fresh Movie Reviews

Jeff Bridges Now Joining Ryan Reynolds for Adaptation of 'R.I.P.D.'

After hearing earlier this month that Zach Galifianakis (The Hangover) would not be able to join Ryan Reynolds in the adaptation of the Dark Horse graphic novel R.I.P.D. (or Rest In Peace Department), I'll admit that I was a little disappointed. However, I'm happy with the development of the project once again as Deadline reports Jeff Bridges is now in talks to join the supernatural action comedy from director Robert Schwentke (RED). Bridges would be playing Reynolds partner in the story of a dead cop who makes a deal to work one hundred years in divine law enforcement in exchange for a shot at finding who killed him.

Producer Neal Moritz previously described this as "a buddy action comedy that follows Reynolds' recently deceased cop character and a gunslinger who has been dead for hundreds of years as they find themselves "patrolling the deadbeat... reporting to one boss. ...

Jane Lynch and Larry David Also Boarding 'The Three Stooges' Cast

With writers and directors Peter and Bobby Farrelly finally rounding up Will Sasso, Sean Hayes and most recently Chris Diamantopoulos as The Three Stooges, now the rest of the cast is being filled out and two more names have just entered the mix. Deadline was first to reveal that "Glee" favorite and Christopher Guest collaborator Jane Lynch would join the cast as Mother Superior, who runs the orphanage where the trio grows up, despite her best efforts to get them adopted. Meanwhile EW also learned that "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and Whatever Works star Larry David will also have some role in the slapstick comedy.

Ironically enough, it was once thought that Larry David would actually be a great choice to play Larry Fine, the role that eventually went to Sean Hayes. Meanwhile, the role that Lynch is taking was once believed to go to Cher (at least that's who the Farrelly ...

Red Carpet Video: Water for Elephants

CAROLINE: You attended the premiere of Water for Elephants at the historic Ziegfeld Theatre in NYC to interview the cast. Most importantly, how did Reese look?RYAN: Degorgeous, of course! It was a bit chilly out and she passed right behind Robert Pattinson as I was talking with him so I missed the opportunity to speak with her.CAROLINE: I'm sorry honey. I know you love her but these things happen.RYAN: It's true. I can't have been, like, "Sorry Robert... It will be competing with Our Idiot Brother, although that is also a Weinstein Co. release, so it may be in for some scheduling changes as well.

Ben Kingsley is Also Set to Join Sacha Baron Cohen in 'The Dictator'

Just recently we learned that Anna Faris, Kristen Wiig and Gillian Jacobs were in the running to snag the female lead in The Dictator, a new comedy from Borat collaborators Sacha Baron Cohen and director Larry Charles. In addition, TV actor Jason Mantzoukas ("The League") was also in talks to play a character alongside Cohen. It turns out his character is one of two Middle Eastern characters who somehow factor into the story about a heroic dictator who risks his life to ensure that democracy never comes to the country he so lovingly oppressed. Variety now reports that Ben Kingsley will play the other foreigner. Awesome!

In the film, Cohen is supposed to play both the titular leader and a goat herder, but it's not clear how the two characters will interact within the story. Either way, it should be quite an interesting comedy full of satire since it's ...

WATER FOR ELEPHANTS

CAROLINE: Water For Elephants is a new movie based on a very popular book from a few years ago that neither of us read. But I didn't mind, because then the story wasn't ruined for me. And it's quite a dramatic story.RYAN: It stars Oscar winners Christoph Waltz and Reese Witherspoon as a married couple in a traveling circus in the '30s, as well as Robert Pattinson of Twilight fame.CAROLINE: This definitely feel like a "very serious movie." It's a period piece, and the Depression plays a big role in the film. Overall, I enjoyed it, but I didn't realize it was going to be so heavy, especially at the end.RYAN: I was unable to attend the screening with you but definitely want to see this one. You know how much I love Reese. How is she?CAROLINE: She's great. First and foremost, she looks great; awesome hair, cool costumes, all very '30s. She gets to do all these tricks with horses and elephants, though sometimes it was clearly a body double.RYAN: How's her chemistry with R. Pattinson?CAROLINE: Well, she's married to Christoph Waltz, who's once again the villain, a role he always plays deliciously. But she does have some simmer with R. Patz that goes pretty well. They're not sizzling up the screen or anything, but I bought it.RYAN: And how's the elephant?CAROLINE: [laughs] She's good. Very well trained. There were a few times where I was like, "Whoa, did Reese really just do that stunt with an elephant or did they green screen it? Because it looks really freaking dangerous." Perhaps we'll never know.RYAN: Do you think all the Robert Pattinson fans will want to rush out and see it?CAROLINE: Honestly, it's a very mature film; I'm not sure that 'tweens and teens will like it. Our parents definitely would though. I think Robert P. is playing it very smart by doing other kinds of movies while Twilight is still in the works. That way he's not pigeonholed as the guy who can only do Twilight and nothing else.RYAN: It's a good career move, for shizz. I'm really looking forward to seeing this one. Should I pay 13 bucks to see it in the theater?CAROLINE: If you did I doubt you'd regret it, but it's not necessarily a must-see on the big screen. It's very well shot and very adult but it's not like it's got action or CGI that requires a big screen viewing.-- BOTTOM LINE --CAROLINE: I liked this movie. I didn't adore it, but it maintained my interest throughout and the cast is great. I liked the circus aspect and the animals. It's definitely heavy; possibly over-the-top at times, but not enough to really bother me. Fans of the book will definitely want to see it and everyone else can decide if they'd rather wait for it to be on cable. Get ready for some drama.-- RATING --Cheeky & Fresh Movie Reviews

SUCKER PUNCH

RYAN: Sucker Punch is a new blockbuster which is coming out in a decidedly non-blockbuster time of year, and I don't think it's going to do very well. It's pretty convoluted.CAROLINE: It's from director Zack Snyder who had a lot of success with 300 and then less luck with Watchmen, which I kind of hated. RYAN: It stars the girl from the Lemony Snicket movies, as well as Jena Malone, Vanessa Hudgens, Abbie Cornish, Carla Gugino with a questionable accent and a cameo from Jon Hamm.CAROLINE: I have a little girl crush on Abbie Cornish. She's gorgeous and has a hot bod, and I love that she's not emaciated Hollywood skinny.RYAN: She's a little bit older and bigger than the other girls in the movie, but she's stunning.CAROLINE: What on earth is Vanessa Hudgens doing in this movie? She can't act and she was mumbling most of the time. I couldn't understand half the stuff she said.RYAN: I know, and this is her second movie this month after Beastly. I guess she's trying to keep up with Zac Efron's career. There's theoretically a lot going for this movie - it's highly stylized, it's got great costumes and makeup, the set design is cool and opening scene is incredible - but it's pretty painful. CAROLINE: I hear what you're saying about the good elements, but none of it worked for me. It's got the feel of a comic book movie, but it's not based on a comic book. I couldn't get into one frame of it.RYAN: I liked all of the elements I just mentioned but the story really ruined the movie for me. It's so sad and painful, especially at the very beginning and end. I was upset by it, so I can't imagine what the target audience of younger people is going to think.CAROLINE: It's a really dark movie, both literally and figuratively.RYAN: But not dark in a Harry Potter movie way, like spooky and creepy. It's just flat-out disturbing.CAROLINE: Well, it's about a mental institute in the '60s, so there's a touch of Shutter Island going on.RYAN: It's a big special effects spectacle, and it even had some war movie moments, which I really didn't appreciate.CAROLINE: For me it was like Kill Bill meets Burlesque with a dash of Chicago thrown in, in a far inferior movie. The fantasy sequences were so awful that I actually got up to pee when I didn't really have to just to avoid watching one of them. And the volume got so freaking loud during those scenes, I could barely hear myself think. Truly awful.RYAN: The girl behind me was kicking the back of my seat the whole time too, so that didn't really enhance my movie-going experience.CAROLINE: I appreciate the girl power theme and I liked these actresses with the exception of Vanessa Hudgens, but at the end of the day I just didn't care about these characters or what happened to them. The movie basically has no point.RYAN: I didn't really care who lived or died, which isn't a good thing. Zack Snyder needs to try a little harder next time.-- BOTTOM LINE --RYAN: Since I had to see this movie, I guess I'm glad I saw it on the big screen; but I wouldn't recommend doing that or even renting it. It has a good message, but ultimately it's wrapped in such a sad, disturbing package that it's just not worth it.CAROLINE: I didn't mind the sad story so much as the fact that it's not a good movie. The fantasy sequences were overblown, pointless and way too long. I was bored throughout. I wouldn't recommend this movie for anyone.-- RATING --Cheeky & Fresh Movie Reviews

HOP

RYAN: I must have really been in the mood for a family film when I attended the press screening of the new movie Hop because I kinda loved it.CAROLINE: Wild horses couldn't have dragged me to see this one. You know I hate kids' movies. And the sound of Russell Brand's voice is beyond grating.RYAN: Well, this one is actually a lot like Who Framed Roger Rabbit in that it's live action with an animated bunny and it has some good, humorous moments for adults but definitely skews more to the younger side. It's from the same people who did Despicable Me, and the chicks are a bit reminiscent of the minions.CAROLINE: That's just so not my cup of tea. I tend to dislike even partial animation, and I didn't love Despicable Me despite the presence of Steve Carell's voice.RYAN: I know, and that's why you're not reviewing this movie. I am. It stars James Marsden as the human lead and the voice of Russell Brand as the animated lead, the bunny, if you will.CAROLINE: I won't. But go on.RYAN: [laughs] You would have at least liked moments in the movie. It's cute and clever and the animation in the bunny world is some of the best candy factory stuff this side of Willy Wonka.CAROLINE: It's an Easter film, right?RYAN: Yes, it's about the Easter Bunny and there are far too few fun Easter movies. I love Easter Parade, the musical with Fred Astaire and Judy Garland and then there's the TV movie about the Easter Bunny; but this is a decent big screener.CAROLINE: Anyone else noteworthy in it?RYAN: Russell actually makes a cameo as a human, which was fun, and Chelsea Handler is in it too.CAROLINE: That's good for her. She's probably dying to get her own film.RYAN: There's also Hugh Laurie, Hank Azaria and Elizabeth Perkins. Overall, it's a sweet story, a lot of fun and just the right length. And it makes you wanna eat jelly beans.CAROLINE: Honey, I don't need a movie for that.-- BOTTOM LINE --RYAN: Not for just everyone to run out and see, but for those who are interested in family films... or a good Easter pick for the kiddies. Top 10 Movies: Best Wedding Movies

In honor of the royal nuptials tomorrow, we thought we would look at some of the best wedding movies in recent years.  Although none of these films even come close to the grandeur and regal nature of Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding,  it's a great way to get into the mood. Check out our top 10 wedding movies and let us know: What's your favorite? TOP 10 WEDDING MOVIES: 10. Made of Honor (2008) Patrick Dempsey plays Tom, the ultimate bachelor.  He doesn't want to settle down, that is, until his best friend Hannah gets engaged.  Tom realizes he is in love with Hannah (Michelle Monaghan), but is asked to be her maid of honor.  Can he win her love before the wedding?  Why we love this one: Everyone knows your not actually supposed to "speak now" during that famous objection line at the wedding, but when someone as cute as Patrick Dempsey wants to steal you away, we can't help but root for him.  His change of heart is sweet and it's clear Tom and Hannah belong together. 9. Wedding Crashers (2005) John and Jeremy love crashing weddings - they take advantage of the glitz, glamor, and desperate girls, for free!  But when they decide to crash the wedding of U.S Secretary of the Treasury, William Cleary's daughter, things don't do as planned.  John falls for Cleary's other daughter Claire, who is already engaged and they get more than they bargain for when they are invited to the summer house for after-wedding celebrations. Why we love this one: Through the veil of shallow sexual conquests, there is a hilarious and sweet love story when John and Jeremy both find love in unlikely places. We love the chemistry between the two leading men and they make a great comedic duo. 8. 27 Dresses (2008) "Always a bridesmaid, never a bride."  That's the theme of 27 Dresses where Katherine Heigl plays Jane, a woman who is the consummate bridesmaid.  She is constantly helping her friends with the best day of their lives, but can never make it down the aisle herself.  She's so hung up on her boss, she can't let anyone else in, until she meets columnist Kevin Doyle (James Marsden).  She must plan the hardest wedding yet - her sister is marrying her boss. Why we love this one: Katherine Heigl is charming as the one who never gets married and we love her vulnerability.  She never feels sorry for herself, but you can't help rooting for her.  We also love watching Jane's relationship with Kevin grow from dislike to love.  7. Runaway Bride (1999) Julia Roberts re-teams for the first time with Richard Gere since Pretty Women and although this movie doesn't have the same charm as the actor's first encounter, it's a cute and worth a watch for all you wedding lovers.  Roberts plays Maggie, a woman with a track record of running away from her upcoming nuptials.  Meanwhile, in New York, reporter "Ike" (Gere), writes a column about her that contains several factual errors, supplied to him by one of Maggie's jilted exes for revenge.  He must go to her hometown to get the right information, but the two strike up a unlikely friendship. Why we love this one: Julia Roberts is her usual charming self and plays the part well.  Although Maggie is a mess, we still want to see her happy.  Although Richard Gere is getting a little older in this film, he's still charming as well and the pair-up oddly works.  Weddings are the central theme, let's just hope this particular situation doesn't unfold during the royal wedding. 6. The Wedding Planner (2001) Although quite predictable and corny, The Wedding Planner is overall completely charming. Jennifer Lopez never seems to get it quite right with her acting roles, but she is delightful in this romantic comedy, opposite Matthew McConaughey.  Wedding Planner Mary Flores believes she has finally found the perfect man when she meets doctor Steve.  Steve does not tell her he is engaged and she meets him again while planning his wedding with his fiance.  It makes the whole wedding planning process a little awkward. Why we love this one: Lopez and McConaughey have great chemistry in this movie and it's really one of the only reasons we can get through it.  The plot it cheesy and predictable, but we love these two on screen together and it's a great film to get you in the mood for a wedding.  This wedding planner organizes some amazing weddings - getting all the details down to a tee. 5. The Wedding Singer (1998) Julia (Drew Barrymore) and Robbie (Adam Sandler) become friends when they meet at the wedding reception hall where they both work.  They are both in relationships at the time, but when those fail, they lean on each other for support and find they actually have a lot in common.   The two have a misunderstanding about their relationship status and end up apart, but Robbie makes a grand gesture to win her back. Why we love this one: Although planning a wedding or getting married isn't the central theme between the two main characters, weddings are littered throughout this funny and sweet comedy.  Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler are delightful and they really seem click and have fun together. 4. Father of the Bride (1991) Father of the Bride is a delightful take on the whole wedding hubbub. George Banks (Steve Martin) must deal with the fact that his 22-year-old daughter Annie is growing up and getting married, despite only knowing the man for three months.  Things are even worse when he finds out the wedding is going to cost him $250 a head and he must work with eccentric wedding planner Franck (Martin Short)   Why we love this one:  Father's usually get brushed aside during all the wedding planning, so it's nice to see the nuptials from a father's perspective.  Every father can identify with the chaos and craziness surrounding losing his little girl.  And although he's not happy about it, he'll do anything to make her happy. 3. My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002) Wedding planning taken to the extreme.  Anyone who knows a Greek family knows there is no such thing as a "small" wedding.  The bride quickly loses control of any aspect of her wedding as her parents take over planning the wedding, despite their disappointment that Toula is not marrying a fellow Greek.  It shows the not-so-romantic side of wedding planning as the bride gets lost in the details. Why we love this one: We see this cultural aspect of planning a wedding played out on the big screen with Nia Vardalos take on planning a Greek wedding.  Based on her own experiences, My Big Fat Greek Wedding is a wedding movie with a crazy and fun twist.  2. My Best Friend's Wedding (1997) The ultimate girl fight, Julia Roberts stars in yet another wedding movie.  This time, she's plotting to sabotage her best friend's wedding.  Julianne has been in love with her best friend Michael for as long as she remembers and the two made an agreement that if they weren't married by the time they were 28, they would marry each other.  Michael calls Julianne on his 28th birthday to announce he is marrying -- someone else.  Julianne agrees to be the maid of honor for his new bride in order to win her friend back. Why we love this one: Although it's a horrible situation, the plot makes for a pretty funny movie.  Roberts is delightful and should be highly unlikable, but it's very difficult to dislike Julia Roberts.  This movie also gives you some great insight into what to look for if someone is in love with your finance. 1. Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994) The ultimate rom com star, Hugh Grant is charming in this romantic comedy nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture.  Grant plays Charles, a man who thinks he will never get married as he attends all the nuptials of his friends.  He finally thinks he's found the right girl in Carrie (Andie McDowell), an American.   The two fall in love, but ultimately go their different ways, starting relationships with other people.  They find each other in a very unlikely place - the fourth wedding, the wedding of Charles. Why we love this one: We would love Hugh Grant in anything he does, but this one is quite charming and delightful.  Grant and McDowell are great together and the British humor is very amusing.  What better movie to top our list as we get ready for the British royal wedding.

Mark Wahlberg and Justin Bieber Collaborate on Drama

Mark Wahlberg and Justin Bieber together for a drama?  The two are joining forces for a drama currently in development at Paramount Pictures, according to Vulture. "[It's] kind of like a reluctant mentor in an inner-city environment," Wahlberg told the trade. He goes on to say that he has been working on the idea with Bieber -- and neither of them will be singing in the film. Beiber recently made his foray into feature films with his musical documentary Never Say Never.  It was released earlier this year an has grossed almost $100 million around the world.

Plot Details & New Cast Members Revealed for 'Piranha 3DD' Sequel

Back in October we learned that Feast director John Gulager would be at the helm of Piranha 3DD, the sequel to last year's over-the-top- blood and nudity filled tongue-in-cheek Piranha 3D, the remake of the original 1978 film from director Joe Dante. Well, earlier this week production officially began on the sequel in North Carolina, and with the start of principal photography we have a list of new cast members joining the sequel including Danielle Panabaker (The Crazies), Matt Bush (Adventureland), Chris Zylka (The Amazing Spider-Man), David Koechner (Anchorman), and Megan Tandy (Unstoppable). More below!

Oh, and in addition, one of Hollywood's craziest will be involved with THR reporting Gary Busey has landed a role in the film as well. Relatively unknown names Paul James Jordan, Jean-Luc Bilodeau, Hector Jimenez, Adrian Martinez, Clu Gulager have also joined the cast, and more will apparently be announced soon. Let's hope that means ...

Trailer Tuesdays!

RYAN: We've got three big new releases this week, all with major stars, so let's get to it. Our most anticipated by far is Hanna. CAROLINE: This is probably the movie I'm most excited for this spring. I love Saoirse Ronan, and the director, Joe Wright, made one of the best movies of the last decade, Atonement. RYAN: This definitely looks like it could be one of the most exciting movies this year. Loooove Cate Blanchett!! Her Southern accent in the trailer is beyond fab.CAROLINE: It co-stars Eric Bana as a dad who teaches his teenage daughter all these survivalist skills as well as how to be an assassin. It reminds me a little of Kick-Ass, minus the comedic angle.RYAN: I don't know that I ever pictured Miss Saoirse as a bad-ass killer, but she seems pretty convincing in the trailer.CAROLINE: She rocks. I think she's the next generation's Kate Winslet or Cate Blanchett. Check out the trailer here: RYAN: Next up is the remake of Arthur, a comedy that starred Dudley Moore back in 1981.CAROLINE: It's 30 years later, and now it's starring Russell Brand, which I can't say I'm thrilled about.RYAN: You're such a Russell Brand hater lately! CAROLINE: I'm trying not to be. I love Katy Perry and I want her to be happy. But he looks like a woman, and he's so unattractive. He can definitely be funny but every time I see an ad for this movie, I'm astounded by how unfunny it is. I don't think I tittered even once watching the trailer. Maybe it's just bad writing.RYAN: Well, I'm super psyched for it. I grew up with the original and used to watch it all the time as a kid. I know it backwards and forwards and am looking forward to the update. It's a fun premise, so why not remake it? And I like how this time around his 'nanny' is a gal, and no less than Helen Mirren!CAROLINE: Helen is always great, and we love Jennifer Garner, of course. Perhaps the two of them will make this more tolerable. I just feel like this is a vehicle for Russell Brand, and one that I'm not willing to ride.RYAN: I think you should give it a shot. It's a really funny movie, and hopefully the new version will pay the proper homage to the original. Watch the trailer here: CAROLINE: Lastly we have Your Highness, a pot comedy from the director of the surprisingly hilarious Pineapple Express.RYAN: I so don't care about this movie. I'm not a pot person, so these movies never interest me.CAROLINE: Yeah, but it's got Natalie Portman and James Franco! And Danny McBride is funny too. I'm not a big pot person either, but I don't think that matters if the movie is funny on its own. And I like that it's a fake fairy tale. RYAN: Yeah, I guess. I do like Zooey Deschanel, who's also in it. But this is one I can easily skip and not feel like I'm missing anything.CAROLINE: I'll see it. The trailer makes me laugh more than the one for Arthur, that's for sure. I doubt it'll be great, but I'm anticipating at least a few laughs. Check out the trailer here: Cheeky & Fresh Movie Reviews

By all means, enjoy it!-- RATING --Cheeky & Fresh Movie Reviews

YOUR HIGHNESS

CAROLINE: Your Highness is a new stoner comedy from the same guy who directed Pineapple Express, which was an infinitely funnier movie.RYAN: I hate movies like this, and had no patience for this one. Was it as bad as I told you it would be?CAROLINE: Ugh. So lame. I don't know if I laughed out loud even once.RYAN: Typical.CAROLINE: Yeah, I wasn't shocked that it wasn't that funny... but I thought I might get a few decent laughs out of it. Danny McBride is funny in general, but most of his jokes here fell flat. I can only handle so many penis and masturbation jokes, thank you.RYAN: Were there pot references throughout?CAROLINE: Actually, I was surprised at how few drug references there were. There's one big scene where Danny McBride, who's the sad sack of the movie, gets stoned and misses his handsome brother's wedding, but that's kind of it.RYAN: And the brother is played by James Franco?CAROLINE: Correct. He's all right. The movie is supposed to be this medieval fairy tale, and they're on a mission to kill the evil warlock, who's played by a very funny Justin Theroux. He actually redeemed the movie for me a little bit. It was nice to see him back on the big screen; he's been behind the scenes for a while.RYAN: What about Natalie Portman?CAROLINE: I will say this; she looks beyond gorgeous. She does a fine job, but she's not particularly funny. And then Zooey Deschanel plays the damsel in distress role, and she's her usual spaced out self.RYAN: Shut up, I love her!CAROLINE: I know you do, but you have to admit she's a little stiff and one-note at times.RYAN: Fine, I can admit that.CAROLINE: Honestly, I barely remember the movie and I only saw it 3 days ago. It's completely forgettable, and something you probably wouldn't even watch for very long on cable before changing the channel. Movies like this can be funny, but when the humor is this juvenile, it's a real stretch. It's a waste of a great cast. -- BOTTOM LINE --CAROLINE: I can't recommend this movie, even for fans of the genre. I suppose Danny McBride fans might like it, and I did enjoy Justin Theroux, but there's really little else going for it. It's not nearly funny enough. Maybe for teenage boys - they'll like all the sex jokes.-- RATING --Cheeky & Fresh Movie Reviews

Joel Schumacher Enters 'The Hive' Thriller for His Next Directing Gig

Though he hasn't really been at the top of his game for the past five years, director Joel Schumacher shows no signs of stopping despite being just over 70 years old. Variety reports the Phone Booth and Phantom of the Opera filmmaker will next be at the helm of a new suspense thriller called The Hive. Written by Rich D'Ovidio (Exit Wounds, Thir13een Ghosts) the story follows an emergency operator who must confront a killer from her past to save a young girl's life. Sounds like a generic thriller to me, but of course Schumacher hasn't really been making any memorable films lately, so I guess it's not surprising.

Though I've enjoyed a few films from Schumacher's career, his more recent films like Twelve and The Number 23 leave something to be desired. And it's kind of hard to get past the fact that he allowed nipples to be ...

John C. Reilly Offered Role in 'Hunger Games', Malcomson Joins, Too

Ohhh boy, are you ready for more casting on The Hunger Games? This isn't going to stop until Lionsgate fills up that chart on Facebook on all 12 of the "tributes." First up, THR reports solid casting news stating that actress Paula Malcomson, seen on "Deadwood", "Sons of Anarchy" and "Caprica" on TV, will play Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Prim's (Willow Shields) mother in the film. Big role for her. In addition to that news, Vulture is reporting that none other than John C. Reilly was offered the role of Haymitch Abernathy, an alcoholic mind you, in The Hunger Games, adapted from Suzanne Collins' novels. Read on!

It doesn't sound like Reilly's casting is confirmed yet, as he was also apparently in the running for a role in Sam Raimi's Oz but is now considering taking this instead, as the offer is out to him. Haymitch Abernathy is the only living ...

THE LINCOLN LAWYER

CAROLINE: Matthew McConaughey stars in the new courtroom drama/thriller, The Lincoln Lawyer, which co-stars Marisa Tomei, Ryan Phillippe and William H. Macy. I must say I went into this movie with pretty low expectations.RYAN: Why? I thought the trailer was decent.CAROLINE: It was OK, but I'm a little bit over Matthew McC lately. Having said that, he was great and I really liked the movie.RYAN: All right, now we're getting somewhere!CAROLINE: Matthew McConaughey still totally has the suave, charismatic thing down. He plays a slick lawyer who works out of his chauffeured car and usually defends criminals and druggies, but then gets a case where his client is a rich Beverly Hills kid.RYAN: I'll assume that's Ryan Phillippe.CAROLINE: Indeed. It feels like it could have been based on a John Grisham book, but it's based on a novel by Michael Connelly. It's a really good movie with lots of twists and turns. I was totally engaged; though it's a little too long.RYAN: Ugh, why do they always do that?CAROLINE: It felt like the movie ended and then it kept going for 10 or 15 minutes. Turns out those last few minutes were pivotal, and good stuff was revealed, but it felt a little tacked on. It wasn't a dealbreaker though. It's still a fun movie that I'd recommend.RYAN: I'm so excited to finally have some decent movies in theaters!CAROLINE: You and me both! I don't know if I liked it so much because I went in with such low expectations, but I was sitting there thinking, "Wow, this is so much better than I thought it would be!"RYAN: How's the rest of the cast?CAROLINE: Marisa Tomei is gorge. She doesn't have a huge part, but I liked the relationship between her and Matthew McConaughey. They're divorced but very friendly, and they're still attracted to each other. Ryan Phillippe is fine - he's somewhat annoying, but he plays the bad boy very well. And William H. Macy is great, as always. I was totally into it.RYAN: I'm so glad it wasn't predictable and lame.CAROLINE: Well, you're always good at predicting what's going to happen, but this one has some good twists. It's not necessarily shocking at any point, but it keeps you on your toes. And the client relationship between Matthew McConaughey and Ryan Phillippe is pretty fascinating. It's a fun movie that adults of all ages will enjoy. -- BOTTOM LINE --CAROLINE: I was surprised by how much I liked this movie. It's got an intriguing story, and is a fun courtroom drama. Matthew McConaughey's still got it, and the whole cast is great. I liked the twists and it kept me engaged throughout. It's about time we got a decent movie up in here. SCREAM 4

CAROLINE: Scream 4 is the much anticipated sequel to a franchise that hasn't been heard from in over a decade. Remember how great the first one was?RYAN: Totally! And I love that they've brought back the main cast, Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette.CAROLINE: Not to mention several younger actors to attract the teen audience - Emma Roberts, Hayden Panetierre, Anna Paquin of TV's True Blood and a Culkin. I didn't even recognize the Culkin as a Culkin until I saw his name in the credits. He has weird long hair.RYAN: All I know is Neve Campbell must be psyched to be back on the big screen. What has she done lately?CAROLINE: I know, right? She's perfectly fine in this though she has this one angsty face I remember her making throughout the other Scream movies, and she's reprising it here big-time. I'm not sure she has much in the way of range.RYAN: She does a lot of acting with her breathing too.CAROLINE: This movie is a lot of fun. I was dreading it a little bit since horror isn't my favorite genre, but I enjoyed myself. I wasn't sure about it at first, but it grew on me as it went on.RYAN: Well, the good news about the Scream movies for people like you is that they're not super scary. They're very self-referential and almost funny at times.CAROLINE: Totally, though I remember being a little shocked at the scariness and gore of the first one. Scream 4 is also quite gory and bloody but not in a over-the-top gross way. When the movie started, it felt a little silly. I was like, "OK, the guy with the voice is calling again," and I was prepared for the movie to be kind of a joke. Luckily it got more interesting as it went along. You have to enjoy the ride and take it for what it is; it's not a great movie or anything, but it's fun to see these characters again.RYAN: Are there a lot of twists and turns?CAROLINE: Not really. There's definitely someone you think might be the killer, but you're not sure till the very end. At least I wasn't.RYAN: How's Courteney Cox's face? That can be a horror movie in itself sometimes.CAROLINE: Yeah, the very few times I've watched Cougar Town, I've actually recoiled at the sight of her Joker face. But it's actually not bad in the movie. No Botox and less scary lips, thank God.RYAN: What about David Arquette aka Deputy Dewey?CAROLINE: He's the sheriff now, honey; he's been promoted. And he's fun to watch but he really can't act. LBH, he's more famous for being Courteney Cox's husband than he is for being a good actor.RYAN: Did the movie make you LOL at all?CAROLINE: Totally! Especially toward the end. There are lots of funny jokes referencing horror movie conventions. I was never truly scared, which was a relief. I was prepared to have nightmares because of all the blood spillage, but I haven't yet.RYAN: I told you you'd be fine. -- BOTTOM LINE --CAROLINE: It's a fun movie that doesn't feel redundant or unnecessary. A long time has passed since the last Scream, and given how much people love horror movies these days, I think this is a worthy sequel. It's clearly not for everyone, but for those who are eagerly anticipating it, I don't think you'll be disappointed. I had a lot of fun watching it and there were only a couple of groaner moments. Overall, it was a satisfying flick.-- RATING --Cheeky & Fresh Movie Reviews

Trailer Tuesdays!

RYAN: We had a good week at the theater last week, but this week is looking like the typical March blahs; with the exception of Sucker Punch, which I'm very excited for.CAROLINE: You're probably more into this one than I am. I appreciate the girl power angle, but it looks comic book-ish, which isn't really my bag.RYAN: Honey, there's a reason it looks that way; it's from the director Zack Snyder, who also made 300 and Watchmen.CAROLINE: I know, I know. They're both such boy movies, and I remember not liking Watchmen at all.RYAN: I think it looks stylish and cool. You know I love the badass girl power, and yay for Jena Malone! I'm always happy when she's in a movie. CAROLINE: It co-stars Abbie Cornish, who was just in Limitless. She's having a big month. Also Carla Gugino. It looks kind of cool, but I'm prepared to not care that much about it.RYAN: I know it's not really your style of movie, but maybe if you go in with low expectations, it'll surprise you. Check out the trailer here: CAROLINE: Next up is the sequel, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules. I think the less said about this one the better.RYAN: Here's what I have to say about it - I saw the first one, and based on that, I'm not going to see the second. CAROLINE: But you didn't hate the first one. You said it was cute and well cast.RYAN: Yes, this is true. But I just don't have the energy for a sequel.CAROLINE: I watched this trailer once, and thought I might rip my hair out. Since it's for kids and 'tweens, the jokes are beyond juvenile and ridiculous. I do like Steve Zahn and Rachael Harris, who play the parents; but this movie can't be more than a paycheck for them. Watch the trailer here - though I don't recommend it: Cheeky & Fresh Movie Reviews

Russell Crowe Might Direct & Star in a 70's Crime Drama Titled '77'

Deadline is reporting that Russell Crowe is "seriously considering" taking on a project called 77 that he would not only star in, but would direct as his feature directorial debut. 77 focuses on two stories from 1974: the unsolved murder of an LAPD officer, and the nationally televised shootout in South Central L.A. between the Symbionese Liberation Army and the LAPD, where 50,000 rounds of gunfire were exchanged. The events will be seen through the eyes of two police partners, one black and one white. He hasn't exactly signed on yet, but is waiting for a rewrite of the screenplay first. Read on!

77 is based on a story by L.A. Confidential writer James Ellroy. The screenplay was adapted by David Matthews. Crowe has been looking at getting into directing for a little while, as he's been attached to a project called Bra Boys before, ...

PAUL

CAROLINE: Paul is a new comedy from the British guys who wrote Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, and it's directed by Greg Mottola, who made Superbad. RYAN: It's animated, right?CAROLINE: Seriously? Honey, have you even watched the trailer? The alien Paul is animated, but everything else is live-action. Get it together.RYAN: Sorry. I didn't get to see this with you, but it looks really funny, and I was sad to miss it.CAROLINE: I wish it were really funny. Honestly, it kind of bored me after a while.RYAN: That's a bummer.CAROLINE: I might have been in the minority though because the audience seemed to be enjoying it. It's also a little bit of a boy movie - lots of juvenile humor, fart jokes, pot jokes, etc. But all in a very rated R way, so it's funnier. I just thought the movie would be hilarious and clever, but it was more mildly amusing.RYAN: How was the cast?CAROLINE: The British guys, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, are fine. Woefully unattractive, but fine. And then it's got a bevy of people we love - Kristen Wiig, Jason Bateman, Bill Hader and Jane Lynch in a small role. And the voice of Paul is Seth Rogen.RYAN: How's Wiig? I adore her.CAROLINE: She's fine, but her character is this religious chick who has to change her whole belief system when she meets Paul, and her transformation just isn't that funny. She curses for for the first time and it becomes a running gag, but her lines aren't that great. They could have done more with it.RYAN: How's Seth as the alien?CAROLINE: He's actually great. It's the perfect role for him, since Paul is a bit of a rebel who smokes pot, gets in trouble, etc. And the special effects were great. They did an amazing job of seamlessly working Paul into the scenes. You couldn't even tell he was animated half the time. That was definitely impressive.RYAN: So is it a spoof movie like Shaun of the Dead spoofed zombie movies?CAROLINE: Yeah, kind of. But sci-fi and aliens aren't really my thing, so maybe that's why I wasn't as into it. Some of the gags are OK, but based on the people behind the film, I thought I'd be LOL'ing throughout. Instead, I chuckled 3 or 4 times. It's not awful, but it wasn't as good as I thought it would be, especially with this cast.RYAN: I guess I'll be saving my 13 bucks then!-- BOTTOM LINE --CAROLINE: I was hoping to love this movie, or at least be highly entertained, but I wasn't. It's funny and cute in parts, well cast and well acted, but it never made me laugh like I hoped. Having said that, my husband loved it and was highly amused, so maybe it's more of a guy movie.-- RATING --Cheeky & Fresh Movie Reviews

Josh Brolin Joining Sean Penn and Ryan Gosling in 'Gangster Squad'

At the end of March we learned that Ryan Gosling and Sean Penn might be facing off in the gestating crime drama Gangster Squad at Warner Bros. However, when word came that Penn was going to star in The Last Photograph, it was said that he had turned down the offer to play infamous gangster Micky Cohen in the film. However, Deadline says the two actors have indeed entered negotiations to star in the film, and Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men) will join them. With Penn taking the criminal role, Brolin and Gosling will play two cops assigned to bring him down when his crimes leave blood on the streets.

This won't be the first time Brolin was involved with a big time gangster as he also played a cop in American Gangster. The detailed story of the pursuit of Cohen and other gangster squad exploits were ...
