The Disney remake of the TV series The Lone Ranger, starring Armie Hammer as the title character and Johnny Depp as his sidekick Tonto, will hit theaters on December 21, 2012.
That's quite a long way away from now, but it's Johnny Depp -- so it should be worth the wait.
The film will be directed with long-time Depp collaboration Gore Verbinski (he directed Depp in both Rango and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest).
Big name director and big name producer -- Jerry Bruckheimer will be producing the film set against the old Wild West.
The Lone Ranger is never seen without his mask and is the survivor of an ambush on six Texas Rangers by an armed gang -- all but one is left dead. The story started out on the radio in the 1930s and ended up as television specials in 1949 and 1957.
