Jennifer Lawrence Officially Cast as Katniss in 'The Hunger Games'

Even though there were more than a few naysayers in the comments when we heard that Winter's Bone star and Academy Award nominee Jennifer Lawrence was the frontrunner to take the lead role of Katniss Everdeen in the adaptation of The Hunger Games, no amount of complaining can stop it. The Wrap reports that Lawrence has officially landed the coveted role in Lionsgate's highly anticipated new franchise based on Suzanne Collins' best-selling book of the same name. The deal officially closed for Lawrence's casting on Wednesday and it's likely that the actress is signed for adaptations of all three books in the young adult novel series.

Gary Ross (Seabiscuit) will direct the adaptation, and now the next big role to be filled in the film is that of the lead male character Peeta. Josh Hutcherson and Alex Pettyfer have been mentioned as contenders and apparently "Weeds" star Hunter Parrish just recently ...
