The Rite Set To Top Weekend Box Office

The Rite is set to top the box office this weekend, even with The King's Speech and 127 Hours expanding into even more theaters. The Rite is set to open in 2,985 theaters this weekend and, according to The Hollywood Reporter, hopes to capitalize on the success of similar horror flick The Last Exorcism released last summer. Fox Searchlight is upping the theater count of 127 Hours from 69 to 916 - pretty much re-releasing the film completely. The other big box office flick The Mechanic opens in 2,700 theaters and should come in at number 2, but could also find itself in a race for that spot with The King's Speech.  Since the Colin Firth historical film is doing so well in the Oscar race, The Weinstein Co. has decided to almost double its release from 1,680 to 2,553 theaters. What are you planning on seeing this weekend (Jan. 28)?
