Friday Deals: 'Rosaline' Adaptation; Sci-Fi 'Year 12' Gets Director

There's a couple of acquisition and directing deals announced that I thought were worth mentioning. First, from Deadline: Fox 2000 has acquired rights to Rebecca Serle's forthcoming novel Rosaline, a twist on the classic Romeo & Juliet story. Director Shawn Levy will produce through his company 21 Laps. Adapting the script will be 500 Days of Summer writers Scott Neustadter & Michael H. Weber (above), who lined up quite a few of these quirky romance projects following 500DOS. Rosaline is a contemporary version set in a high school, with the love story being told from the vantage point of Rosaline, jilted ex-girlfriend of Romeo.

Next, from The Wrap: Commercials director Fredrik Bond, who has yet to make his feature debut despite being attached to Hack/Slash and The Host remake, is now attached to direct a sci-fi action movie called Year 12. The script, written by newcomer Edward Ricourt, takes place 12 ...
