Nolan's 'The Dark Knight Rises' Lands a PG-13 Rating, As Expected

Briefly: It should come as no surprise that Chris Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises, which has already been screened for Warner Bros execs and apparently the MPAA, has received a PG-13 rating. Collider reports that a NolanFans forum member got a screenshot (here) of the official PG-13 rating on the WB exhibitors' website, stating it's rated for "intense sequences of violence and action, some sensuality and language." The Bane prologue was already rated PG-13 and this isn't a big surprise, though still intriguing to hear. Once again Nolan pulls off a PG-13 with ease, though I'm sure it's still dark and violent. In related news, check out this dark promo bus (above) for TDKR found in Hong Kong. Things are heating up with only 3 months left!

Alex Proyas to Adapt 'The Unpleasant Profession of Jonathan Hoag'

Between his failed launch of both Paradise Lost and Dracula Year Zero, it hasn't been a good run for director Alex Proyas recently. However, the director of Knowing, Dark City and I, Robot is ready to move forward on another project as Red Granite Pictures has announced it will finance and co-produce an adaptation of The Unpleasant Profession of Jonathan Hoag, the novel by Robert Heinlein, with Proyas attached to direct and also adapting the book himself. The project is looking to start shooting sometime this fall in Australia where Proyas and his Mystery Clock Cinema production banner is based.

In the novel, the title character is struck one evening with the realization that he has no memory of what he does during the day. Distraught over his predicament, and particularly concerned that he might be engaged in some nefarious activities, he contacts a husband and wife detective agency and asks ...

The Avengers: Suit Up Trailer

Fans of The Avengers who were watching last night’s Dancing with the Stars, may have wanted to get up and do a little boogie of their own after witnessing the film’s latest trailer during the ABC hit show. The spot, affectionately called Suit Up, features our favorite Marvel heroes getting ready for battle. There are a few new scenes, but more importantly the TV spot gives us a feel for what unifies the Avengers. Although their personalities may be larger than life, especially that Iron Man guy, when the peace and tranquility of Earth is threatened, they become a team.

PROJECT X

CAROLINE: I can't believe you went to see this. I would and did boycott this movie, just from the trailer alone.

RYAN: I was seriously dreading going to the screening. These are the times when seeing movies really is much less a labor of love than usual.

CAROLINE: So how bad is it?

RYAN: Well it's bad but not as all-bad as I'd expected; however, that's gotta be because my expectations were so low.

CAROLINE: So break it down for me.

RYAN: It's kiddie porn.

CAROLINE: What?!?!

RYAN: [laughs] Well there is like a lot of underage nudity of the bosom variety. I can only imagine the creepy old men this film will appeal to.

CAROLINE: I'm disgusted.

RYAN: It's a very loose story... about the high school party to shut down all high school parties: the epic party. And it's a bit wannabe Risky Business meets Kids but without edge, wit, good writing or even good acting. It was like watching a high school play rehearsal.

CAROLINE: That sounds atrocious.

RYAN: That being said, I didn't want to walk out and I didn't sleep at all during it. I was kinda waiting for someone to die or something super dramatic and while there is some climax it's not that.

CAROLINE: This is the opposite of a glowing review.

RYAN: Well it's a very cliche movie. The nerdy boy, the girl crush, the parents go away, the out of control party, the family dog, dad's nice car... the cheesy best friends. I suppose if you're currently in high school there may be some appeal.

CAROLINE: We're clearly not the target audience.

RYAN: The audience I screened with didn't really react either. It's just a cheap, cliche film.

Tim Burton Looking for More Stop-Motion with 'Night of the Living'

Every now and then people need to be reminded that Tim Burton produced The Nightmare Before Christmas and it was Coraline director Henry Selick who was at the helm of the holiday musical, stop-motion animated feature. Of course, since then Burton has gone on to direct his own stop-motion films like The Corpse Bride, the forthcoming Frankenweenie, and a new take on The Addams Family. Now it sounds like he will be at the helm of yet another stop-motion film called The Night of the Living, a new original story from Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter screenwriter and author Seth Grahame-Smith.

In an interview with THR, Grahame-Smith only briefly touched on the developing project saying:

"'Night of the Living' is an idea I have had around for years that I'm doing with Tim Burton. When we were shooting 'Dark Shadows' last year I worked up the nerve to tell Tim about it because ...

Woody Harrelson Set to Face Christian Bale in 'Out of the Furnace'

The sibling duo in the new thriller Out of the Furnace has already been locked down with Christian Bale and Casey Affleck playing brothers in the new film from Crazy Heart director Scott Cooper. The story follows follows a man named Slim (Bale) who, upon release from years in prison for murder, just wants to keep his promise to marry his girlfriend. However, his path changes when he seeks revenge once he learns his brother (Affleck) was murdered after getting involved in some gambling racket. Now Variety reports Woody Harrelson will play Curtis DeGroat, the ringleader who Bale ends up seeking vengeance against.

Harrelson has been quite the bad-ass as of late. Between Zombieland in 2009, his Oscar-worthy turn as a corrupt cop in Rampart, a helpful mentor role in The Hunger Games, and a promising turn in the dark comedic thriller Seven Psychopaths, Harrelson really is back on his A-game. ...
