Kate Hudson & James Franco Join Different Linda Lovelance Biopic

Honestly, I don't know how James Franco has time to sleep sit on the toilet for more than a few seconds everyday. We just recently heard that Franco will direct and star in an adaptation of The Night Stalker along with the plethora of other projects in the works. Now Deadline reports Franco is in discussions to play pornographer Chuck Traynor in a biography of Linda Lovelace, the porn star turned anti-porn advocate. In addition, Kate Hudson apparently has the offer to play the titule role in Lovelace. The two will play the husband and wife who made waves in the adult film industry with the infamous 1972 porno Deep Throat.

After quitting the business, Lovelace changed her name to Linda Boreman and then revealed that Traynor had forced her into prostitution and pornography through physical abuse and apparently hypnotism. Written by W. Merrit Johnson, the film is actually an adaptation ...

THE DILEMMA

CAROLINE: The new Ron Howard movie, The Dilemma, is being billed as a hilarious comedy starring Vince Vaughn and Kevin James, but in actuality it's kind of a serious movie.RYAN: Really? That surprises me. I didn't get to attend the screening with you, sadly, but as you know, I have only one question - how was Winona Ryder?CAROLINE: That's hardly where I want to begin.RYAN: But you know I love her! I'm so excited that she's having a career renaissance lately what with this movie and Black Swan. CAROLINE: She's perfectly fine. She looks good - too good to be playing Kevin James's wife, that's for sure.RYAN: Yeah, that's not so realistic. And Jennifer Connelly is Vince Vaughn's wife?CAROLINE: No, she plays his live-in girlfriend, but part of the movie is his planning to propose. And Jennifer Connelly is so gorgeous I almost had to look away a few times. She's just beautiful. A little too skinny though.RYAN: So is the movie not that funny?CAROLINE: It starts off hilariously with the four of them at dinner and Vince Vaughn doing one of his signature rants. The audience was howling. But the movie takes a turn when Vince sees Winona, his best friend's wife, making out with another man, who's played by Channing Tatum. Then the movie basically becomes a morality tale about friendship, marriage, love, betrayal, addiction and loyalty.RYAN: Wow. Did it make you LOL at all?CAROLINE: Oh sure. There are some funny moments, but honestly, the comedy probably only makes up about 20% of the movie. The rest is pretty intense. It's really a movie for people in their late 20s, 30s and 40s who can relate to marriage and infidelity and that sort of thing. I don't think the kids will like it.RYAN: This is all so interesting because I just assumed this was a romantic comedy.CAROLINE: I'd still call it a comedy, even a bromance, but it has that Ron Howard heaviness, like in Parenthood. Also, it's quite long at almost 2 hours. Ron needs to be a little more judicious in the editing room.RYAN: So no poop jokes?CAROLINE: Ha, no. It's much more adult than that, which I appreciated. There's no bathroom humor. I liked the cast a lot, but the movie dragged a little and was a lot more serious than I thought it would be. But it's certainly relatable in some ways. I think we've all debated what we would do if we caught a good friend's spouse cheating.RYAN: For sure. How's Vince looking?CAROLINE: A little bloated, but not bad for him. I always enjoy him in movies. This one got a little heavier than it needed to be, and some of the scenes weren't entirely believable or realistic. And I would have preferred someone other than Kevin James in the best friend role too. He's amusing but nothing special.-- BOTTOM LINE --CAROLINE: This movie isn't nearly as much of a comedy as it leads you to believe. It's funny in parts, but also pretty intense in others as you watch the characters make different ethical decisions. I enjoyed it to some degree, but also felt like it was a little bit of false advertising. Great cast, though I'd say you really don't have to see it on the big screen. You'd be just as happy watching it at home.-- RATING --Cheeky & Fresh Movie Reviews

CASINO JACK

RYAN: Academy Award winner Kevin Spacey stars in this flick, based on the true story of Jack Abramoff who was a naughty lobbyist in Washington DC.CAROLINE: I haven't yet viewed the screener for this and I know you attended a screening a while ago. Now Kevin's up for a best actor Golden Globe. Did you like him in it?RYAN: You know, I found him equal parts annoying and enjoyable. I like him overall as an actor. He's usually very good and I walked away from this picture liking him but he was pretty cheesy in moments.CAROLINE: I'm sorry. Picture?RYAN: That's how fancy people in Hollywood used to refer to movies.CAROLINE: I know. But we're not fancy nor are we in Hollywood right now.RYAN: Here's the thing about Kevin in this movie - the very thing that most irritated me about his performance I ended up liking. And it's due to the screenplay. His character quotes movies a lot, which we and many of our friends do for fun but he quotes and does impressions and some just didn't' work.CAROLINE: That's fair. How was the movie overall?RYAN: It's okay. I didn't love it but I certainly didn't hate it. I don't want to give anything specific away but there was one point about halfway through where I thought about walking out because I was bored but then the story turns a corner and it get's almost Coen-Brothers-exciting and I was hooked from then on.CAROLINE: That's cool.RYAN: Yeah. It just takes a little too long to take off.CAROLINE: Who else is in it?RYAN: Well there's Jon Lovitz.CAROLINE: Where the hell has he been hiding out?RYAN: Exactly. But who better to play an out of shape, skeevy character. He's fine in this. And I don't mind him sparingly. And there's also Kelly Preston who I enjoy.CAROLINE: I wonder how she got in the business. So is this something I have to see?RYAN: Well I'd say it's not bad to watch on DVD at home. It's a little bit of that "I can't believe this actually happened" like I Love You Phillip Morris... but not as good and not with Ewan McGregor.CAROLINE: Fair enough.-- BOTTOM LINE --RYAN: It's just a pretty random but straightforward biopic about a somewhat despicable guy. If you like to see the GG nominated movies and you're a fan of K.Space, I'd say rent it.-- RATING --Cheeky & Fresh Movie Reviews

COUNTRY STRONG

CAROLINE: Country Strong is the new Gwyneth Paltrow movie in which she stuns and awes us all with her incredible singing voice. And you may remember she performed the movie's title track at the CMAs last year.RYAN: Of course! She did a great job.CAROLINE: She looked nervous as hell, but she sounded pretty good. Though we already knew she could sing from that train wreck of a movie, Duets, that her dad directed years ago.RYAN: I was sadly unable to attend the screening of Country Strong with you but am considering shelling out mine own $13 to see it this weekend. You know how I adore a movie musical. Is it worth it?CAROLINE: Honestly, it's not worth your money in the theater. It's basically a Lifetime movie that happens to star an Oscar winning actress. But given your personal love of movies with singing, it might be worthwhile for you.RYAN: Oh no, I'm bummed. I wanted it to be really good.CAROLINE: Honey, it's a January release! It didn't have a chance in hell of being really good.RYAN: But didn't it have an awards qualifying run in late December?CAROLINE: Yes, but I'm convinced that the only reason they did that was so Gwyneth wouldn't be humiliated that she had a January release on her hands. And the only nomination the movie has gotten so far is for Best Original Song.RYAN: All right, so what's so bad about it?CAROLINE: Well, it's not the worst thing I've ever seen, and I did enjoy the music, but it's sooooo cheesy. Gwyneth's character is such a hot mess that I actually hated her at times. She's a whiny, indulgent, self-pitying, drunk country music star who shamelessly cheats on her husband, who's played by Tim McGraw. And what happens at the end is bananas, but I won't tell you what it is.RYAN: Is Gwyneth good at least?CAROLINE: Sure. And she sings very well too. She allows herself to look a little undone in the movie - bad makeup, messy hair, etc. - which is necessary for the character. She looks thin to me though. Her face is drawn, and I think she'd look younger and prettier with a little more weight on her.RYAN: Speaking of younger, Leighton Meester from TV's Gossip Girl plays the ingenue on tour with her. How does she do?CAROLINE: She's pretty good, and her voice is nice too. I really liked the lead guy though, who was also just in TRON: Legacy. He's very hot and totally reminded me of Brad Pitt in Thelma & Louise. He's totally believable as a country singer, but apparently he'd never sung or played the guitar before making this movie, which shocked me.RYAN: So it sounds like there are some good things about the movie. I think I might like it.CAROLINE: Don't get your hopes up, honey. Go in with low expectations and you might enjoy it, but there's no getting around its cheesiness. This is a glorified TV movie at best. Not sure why Gwyneth wanted to be in a flick with a bunch of B-listers and virtual unknowns, but maybe she just really wanted to sing.-- BOTTOM LINE --CAROLINE: This movie didn't disappoint me because I wasn't expecting much from it, but it's really lame in parts. If it didn't have some decent singing, I probably would have hated it. The story is melodramatic and overwrought, and the ending is kind of insane. Plus it went on about 15 minutes too long. I thought it ended two or three times but it kept going. Country music fans will no doubt flock to see it, but for the rest of us, it's ber cheese.-- RATING --Cheeky & Fresh Movie Reviews
