Gosling, Gordon-Levitt or Skarsgard May Be 'The Man from U.N.C.L.E.'

With frequent Steven Soderbergh collaborator George Clooney dropping out of the director's big screen adaptation of the 60s TV series The Man from U.N.C.L.E., the hunt is on for someone to step into the vacated role of Napoleon Solo ,originally played by Robert Vaughn. While no names have surfaced to replace Clooney, a shortlist has been circulating with the actors desired to play agent Ilya�Kuryakin, another member of U.N.C.L.E (United Network Command for Law Enforcement), first played by David McCallum. Apparently Ryan Gosling, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Alexander Skarsg�rd are on the list.

Much like the original series, the film will be a buddy movie with action and comedy combining in the same fashion as Lethal Weapon, but with a 60's setting. BAD TEACHER

RYAN: I didn't get to attend the Bad Teacher screening a few weeks ago, but I love that you shelled out your own $13 to see it.

CAROLINE: Make that $13.50, honey.

RYAN: Are you serious?

CAROLINE: Ridiculous, right? But I wanted to check it out because I enjoy the cast - Cameron Diaz, Jason Segel, Justin Timberlake, Phyllis from The Office and the very funny Lucy Punch.

RYAN: And did it deliver?

CAROLINE: It definitely made me laugh out loud several times. I saw it in a pretty empty theater so it's hard to gauge the comedy level since there was no one else to LOL with. But I was amused.

RYAN: How was JT?

CAROLINE: Honestly, I'm still on the fence with him as an actor. He's fine, but he still feels a little stiff to me, like he's trying too hard or something. He's not terrible, but he's not the world's most natural actor.

RYAN: I tend to agree. What about the rest of the cast?

CAROLINE: They're all good. I totally forgot that Lucy Punch was in it so that was a pleasant surprise; and you'd never know she's British.

RYAN: She's a true chameleon that way.

CAROLINE: The redband trailer was so great for this movie and it does deliver on a lot of punch lines, but some of the profanity felt gratuitous. Like, isn't it funny to have a hot blond saying all these nasty words? It still made me laugh, but the comedy felt a little forced sometimes.

RYAN: Do you get to see Cameron and JT make out?

CAROLINE: No, but they have a dry humping scene if you must know.

RYAN: How random! I'll have to see that for myself someday.

-- BOTTOM LINE --

CAROLINE: It's a funny movie, but nothing spectacular. I'm glad I saw it because I like the cast a lot, but it's not a must-see summer comedy. I think Bridesmaids is going to be the best comedy of this summer, LBH. But you'd be happy to catch Bad Teacher on cable some lazy weekend.

Footloose Video: Inside the Line Dance Sequence

Paramount has released a new behind the scenes clip from Footloose that gives audiences an insight into capturing the always tricky line dance sequence. Footloose is launching for a new generation based strongly on the 1984 classic starring Kevin Bacon.

“I saw Footloose in my hometown theater when I was 13 years old and it rocked my world,” said director Craig Brewer.

“It was a teenage rebellion movie that explored the struggles of faith and family in a small town, and it had an awesome soundtrack. I can promise Footloose fans that I will be true to the spirit of the original film. But I still gotta put my own Southern grit into it and kick it into 2011. It's going to be a blast!”

The producer of the original, Craig Zadan, talks about history repeating itself with Footloose 2011.

"When we discovered Kevin Bacon in 1984, we were both excited and gratified -- and also knew the chances of ever duplicating that effort was a million to one shot. Decades later Kenny Wormald proved history could repeat itself,” said Zadan. The man who inherited Bacon’s dancing shoes first dazzled in an Oscar nominated Terrence Howard film.

“We've wanted to work with Brewer ever since we saw Hustle & Flow,” added Zadan. “His fresh and contemporary vision will bring Footloose to a whole new generation of moviegoers when the movie opens in 2011."

CAROLINE: I'm a huge fan of J.J. Abrams and all of his work. I've seen all of his TV shows and have been looking forward to this movie but had to miss the press screening for it. How was it?

RYAN: It's excellent. It's seriously good and more than anything, it's a love letter from J.J. to Steven Spielberg, who produced it. And I saw it with my friend, Jay Jay, which was special and coincidental.

CAROLINE: [laughs] Okay. So is it very derivative of a Spielberg movie?

RYAN: Well yes, but in the best way. It's also derivative of LOST but, of course, only to those who watched and look for it.

CAROLINE: I'm dying to ask you what the thing in the trailer turns out to be but you can't give anything away and ruin it.

RYAN: We don't do spoilers so I can't say; but here's what I will: The movie is very exciting. It's a little slow in parts but when it's moving, it's brilliant. And it's so well cast.

CAROLINE: I know Dakota's little sister, Elle Fanning, is in it, but anyone else we care about?

RYAN: Not really. And it's cool that way - you feel the sort of small town-ness about it and are swept into caring about this little gang of kids from the get-go.

CAROLINE: I don't love kids movies but this definitely seems to have an edgier, cooler vibe to it.

RYAN: It's 100% an adventure and I love the whole Super 8 theme that they're making this little movie, and everything, and it's all just really well done and exciting. And some of the shots are pure genius. The effects are not anything too new but definitely still make quite an impact.

CAROLINE: And it's not in 3D.

RYAN: No. It's old-fashioned, American, classic, summer blockbuster.

CAROLINE: And does it have a classic music theme like ET?

RYAN: The soundtrack and score are both brilliant. It takes place in 1979 so the set design, the cars, the hair and costumes are all very period-appropriate and fun to see.

CAROLINE: I think I really would have liked this one. I'll have to make a point in seeing it.

RYAN: And please... See it in the theater. In the big, dark atmosphere it just totally heightens the experience. Jay Jay and I even grabbed each others elbows a couple times. It's the perfect movie for the new generation who didn't see ET, Jurassic Park, or The Goonies. Those are all still must see for everyone but this is one to add to that list of great movies.
